Peaceful Country, Prosperous Life! Elderly Cambodian Couple Remarry in Their 60s

KRATIE: An elderly couple who got married in their youth during the Khmer Rouge regime without a proper ceremony, have now finally celebrated their wedding and remarried at the age of 66 and 64 in Kratie province.

The elderly couple was photographed by comedian Pakmee, who performed at the wedding ceremony on Thursday, 9 February 2023, and shared the picture on his Facebook page, writing that the couple has been in love for 57 years.

The comedian noted that he had never encountered a bride and groom that were older than his parents.

"Buddha! [A groom and bride who are] older than my dad!” he exclaimed.

One of the bridesmaids at the couple’s wedding, who is also in her 60s, said that she also wished to remarry.

Many Cambodian elders lost the joy of their youth while struggling to make ends meet in a war-torn country, escaping danger for years until Cambodia was finally able to regain peace in 1998. They were only able to rebuild their lives once their youth had passed.

The peace that the Kingdom has now has led to great prosperity of life, with many now finally having the free time, after years of hardship, to live their lives to the fullest, while reminiscing about past youth. This is a sign that Cambodia is no longer an outdated country plagued by war.
